A UK CV should be two pages of A4, written in British English, and led by a short personal statement followed by key skills, work experience and education. Resumelyt UK sells ATS-tested British CV templates from £9 as instant Word and PDF downloads, and bespoke CV writing by UK-based writers from £79, both covered by a 60-day interview guarantee.

How to write a UK CV in 2026

Six steps British recruiters expect, whether you start from one of our templates or write from scratch.

  1. 1

Choose the right UK CV format

Use a reverse-chronological, two-page A4 layout. British recruiters expect Personal Statement, Key Skills, Work Experience, Education, then Certifications, in that order.

  2. 2

    Write a targeted personal statement

Open with three or four lines that name the role you want, your years of experience and one measurable achievement. Mirror the wording of the job advert.

  3. 3

    Evidence your experience with numbers

Give each role three to five bullet points built around outcomes: what you did, how you did it and the measurable result, such as a percentage or a pound figure.

  4. 4

    Make it ATS-readable

Keep one column for content, use standard headings, avoid tables, text boxes, headers, footers and graphics, and save as .docx or a text-based PDF.

  5. 5

Add UK-specific details and leave out the rest

Include your city, a UK mobile number and a professional email. Leave out your photo, date of birth, marital status and nationality, and note that references are available on request.

  6. 6

    Proofread in British English

Check spellings such as organised, specialise and programme, use DD Month YYYY dates, then read the CV aloud once to catch anything clumsy.

Two pages of A4 is the British standard, preferred by 91% of UK recruiters. School leavers and recent graduates can use one page; senior executives may extend to three.
